Ultrasound
Diagnostic ultrasound imaging is a safe, non-invasive imaging modality available to our patients. Our daily in-house ultrasound capability
provides a powerful immediate site of care diagnostic tool that can help reveal abnormalities not detectable by radiographs and laboratory testing.
Cardiac ultrasound (echocardiography) provides important information regarding the structure and blood flow of the heart. Ultrasound can also be used to assess internal organs, detect the presence of fluid accumulation in the chest or abdomen, reveal otherwise undetected cancers, obstructions or growths. It can also be used to identify focal systemic diseases as well as direct sampling of fluid or aspirates of organs.
Ultrasound technology is a highly advanced piece of machinery that uses ultrasonic waves to produce imagery within bodily structures. Doctors can use ultrasound as a powerful diagnostic tool that is both expedient and effective for our canine and feline patients. Dr. Esherick is a licensed general practitioner in small animal ultrasonography and is well versed in echocardiography. This particular imagery allows doctors to assess vital organs such as the liver, kidneys, spleen and heart without the involvement of any harsh radiation waves. Ultrasound can also be utilized to perform biopsies and needle aspirates in “real time”.
